Transcatheter Tricuspid Valve Repair with TriClip™

Transcatheter Tricuspid Valve Repair with TriClip™ repairs leaky tricuspid valves without open-heart surgery.

  • TriClip™ is an FDA-approved cardiac device designed to treat severe Tricuspid Valve Regurgitation without doing open-heart surgery. The interventional cardiologist inserts a narrow tube called a catheter into a large vein in the upper leg and guides it into the right side of the heart to the tricuspid valve.

  • There the TriClip device is attached to the leaflets of the leaky tricuspid valve, helping it to close more effectively and immediately improving heart function. The TriClip is a permanent implanted device.

  • This procedure is performed under general anesthesia in the cardiac catheterization lab. It typically takes about two hours.

  • Most patients go home in one or two days. Patients can start taking short easy walks the next day and gradually increase activities during the one to two week recovery period.

  • People who have severe Tricuspid Valve Regurgitation can discuss the TriClip procedure with their cardiologist. A specialized echocardiogram done at the medical center is required along with other tests to determine if a patient qualifies for TriClip.
