April 6, 2023 – Members of Salinas Valley Health are receiving significant local and national recognition for their outstanding contributions to the healthcare industry and positive impact on the local community.

Today, the Salinas Valley Chamber of Commerce named Chief Medical Officer for Salinas Valley Health, Allen Radner, MD, as the Chamber’s Citizen of the Year 2022. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Radner played a critical role in the coordination and support of the medical community's proactive response to the coronavirus - influencing policy, safety protocols, testing, limited supply management, medication and vaccines. As an infectious disease expert, he was a passionate advocate for public outreach and education during a critical period of conflicting and often inaccurate information surrounding COVID-19.

“This prestigious award is a testament to Dr. Radner's tireless dedication to improving the health and well-being of Monterey County,” says Pete Delgado, president/CEO of Salinas Valley Health. “His inclusionary efforts helped inform our diverse population and helped reduce serious illness and death in Monterey County by publicly advocating for the widespread adoption and administration of safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine.”

Dr. Radner joined the medical staff of Salinas Valley Health in 1994 and for the past ten years has served on the executive team as the healthcare system's Chief Medical Officer. In October 2019, he was named Chief Executive Officer of Salinas Valley Health Medical Clinics, a network of primary and specialty care clinics serving Monterey County with more than 300 physicians. Dr. Radner is board certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He also serves as Clinical Professor, Department of Family and Community Medicine for the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, Medical Director of the Natividad Immunodeficiency and Infectious Diseases Clinic, and as Monterey County Tuberculosis Controller.

Another executive team member at Salinas Valley Health, Chief Operating Officer, Clement Miller, RN has been named to Becker's Hospital Review 2023 list of "Black Healthcare Leaders to Know." Mr. Miller manages the overall operations of 20 clinical and non-clinical departments at Salinas Valley Health. He oversees 81 percent of its staff and 70 percent of its operating expenses. In addition to his role at the health system, he serves on the board of directors for Rancho Cielo, a center for underserved youth, and Black Leaders and Allies Collaborative. Prior to his current role as COO, Mr. Miller joined Salinas Valley Health as the director of surgical services and rose through the ranks. Among his many achievements, Mr. Miller stepped in during the years-long process to Magnet designation for nursing excellence, an accomplishment reached by only 10% of hospitals nationwide.

“Under Clement’s leadership, Salinas Valley Health opened a new hospital-based, stand-alone infusion center to provide services to some of our most vulnerable patients,” Delgado said. “He is an extremely effective consensus-builder, visionary, and navigator of challenging issues who has gained widespread respect throughout our organization and is now included among an impressive group recognized by Becker’s.”

In addition to individual executive recognition, Salinas Valley Health is extremely proud of its sponsorship of Blue Zones Project Monterey County, which received the Salinas Valley Chamber of Commerce Spirit of the Community award. Under the leadership of Tiffany DiTullio, Blue Zones Project is successfully implementing a community wide approach to better health that includes schools, grocery stores, worksites, restaurants, faith-based organizations, civic groups, and individuals, affecting policy, places and people. Blue Zones has established sustainable changes to the environments to fulfill a mission of making the healthy choice, the easy choice.
