Vaccinations Save Lives

HAGA CLIC PARA ESPAÑOL

At Salinas Valley Health, we believe vaccinations are one of the most powerful tools we have to protect ourselves and our loved ones. From preventing the spread of serious diseases to safeguarding the most vulnerable among us, vaccinations play a critical role in keeping families healthy and our region strong. Backed by decades of scientific research and rigorous safety standards, vaccinations are a safe and effective way to prevent illness and promote long-term wellness. When we choose to get vaccinated, we are not just caring for ourselves—we are strengthening the health of our entire community.

Ask your doctor or healthcare provider if getting a vaccine is right for you.

Did You Know?

  • RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) can cause very serious breathing problems in babies. There is a shot that can be given to newborns who are at high risk - but if a pregnant woman gets the RSV vaccine between weeks 32 and 36 of pregnancy, her baby usually will not need that shot. RSV can cause very serious breathing problems in babies.

  • Getting the shingles vaccine can help protect you from painful shingles (also called zoster). It may also lower your chance of having a heart attack or stroke.

  • Last winter, Salinas Valley Health cared for more than 200 patients who were very sick with the flu or RSV (respiratory syncytial virus). There are safe vaccines that can help protect you or make these illnesses less serious. Ask your doctor or healthcare provider if getting a vaccine is right for you.

  • Some childhood vaccines don’t just protect your children, they can also help keep grandparents, older adults, and family members who are sick from getting very ill. Vaccinating children is one of the best ways to protect the whole family.

  • COVID can still cause serious illness in young children and in women who are pregnant. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the California Department of Public Health recommend that children ages 6 to 23 months get the COVID vaccine.

  • The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, along with the California Department of Public Health, also recommend the vaccine for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
