We help bring hundreds of new lives into the world every year at Salinas Valley Health. Each birth is different and each is a special occasion. For parents, having a child is one of life’s most significant events.

After a long pause due to the pandemic, we are excited to be able to resume in-person tours of our Maternity Center. Our highly qualified labor and delivery team delivered nearly 1600 babies in 2022. Each family is unique and has its own concerns.

Visiting our medical center, meeting our team and asking questions gives expecting parents a foundation of knowledge about the experience. From labor preferences, pain medication, support during birth, to care for mom and baby – we have answers.

Our Medical Center now offers the option of attempted vaginal birth, for those who had a previous cesarean section providing additional choices for patients.

It is reassuring for parents that Salinas Valley Health is home to a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), a state-of-the-art facility caring for infants 28-weeks and greater. Through partnership with Stanford University, our neonatologists can confer with pediatric cardiologists there via high-speed audio/video network to determine the best course of care, while their families remain close to home and baby.

A good time to schedule a hospital tour is at the beginning of the third trimester of pregnancy. It takes about an hour and provides a walk-through of the entire process with valuable information. The most important part is the opportunity for you to ask questions. Tours are currently scheduled for the first Saturday of April and May. Check our website to learn more.

We have earned national and international recognition for the exceptional care our team provides. U.S. News & World Report named us as a 2022-2023 High Performing Hospital for Maternity Care (Uncomplicated Pregnancy). We have also been accredited since 2011 as Baby-Friendly by the World Health Organization and UNICEF, one of only 600-such facilities to presently hold this designation in the United States.

Our advanced care and leading-edge technology help us earn these high rankings – yet at the heart of our success is highly skilled and compassionate team who love what they do – helping build the future for our community, one baby at a time.
