Salinas Valley Health (Salinas Valley Health) celebrated leap year with not one, but five special deliveries. The February 29th activity at the hospital’s labor and delivery unit began at 2:17am and the last leap day baby was born at 10:22pm.

“All of our babies are special,” says Dani Robison, RN, Labor and Delivery Clinical Manager at Salinas Valley Memorial. “It is extra exciting though when we have babies born on unique days. Unlike New Year’s and other holidays, leap day only comes around once every four years.”

Baby Austin is one of four boys born at Salinas Valley Memorial on leap day. “Austin arrived a little earlier than we expected,” says father Dale Fors of Salinas. “Everything went smoothly and the care here is fabulous.”

Austin was born to Gaby and Dale Fors at 37 weeks and he weighs 6 pounds, 12 ounces. “He’s absolutely beautiful,” says Gaby. “We’re not sure what day we will celebrate every year, but we’re leaning toward February 28th just so the month stays the same.”

All five babies born at Salinas Valley Memorial on February 29th will be toddlers when they celebrate their next actual birthday in 2020.
