Salinas Valley Health Nurse Receives Daisy Award

Amanda Maguire-Martin, RN is the June recipient of the Daisy Award at Salinas Valley Health. Salinas Valley Health participates in the national Daisy Award program, which celebrates extraordinary compassionate and skillful nursing care. Amanda is a staff nurse II in the Surgery Department and has worked at Salinas Valley Memorial since 2007. She has more than 20 years experience in the healthcare profession.

“I love being able to take care of our patients and being a part of this incredible team,” says Amanda Maguire-Martin, RN Certified Nurse in the Operating Room. “I’m honored that our patients recognize and appreciate the compassionate care we provide”.

A physician nominated Amanda for her commendable skills in handling a difficult patient care situation involving an injured autistic child. Amanda helped the child stay calm before and after surgery and made a connection with the parents, resulting in an exceptional patient experience.

“Amanda is not just a hero to that child, but to the parents as well,” says Christie Gonder, Chief Nursing Officer at Salinas Valley Health. “Our nurses deliver outstanding care to the community every day and Amanda is a shining example of that passion and compassion.”

Every month, Salinas Valley Health recognizes an outstanding employee with a Daisy Award (for nurses) or a Star Award (for all staff). Nominations can be submitted by patients, visitors and staff.
