Children from though out Monterey County are taking part in the 15^th annual Medical Adventure Camp at Salinas Valley Health. The two-week camp is one way the Healthcare System engages young people in their health and wellness through hands on activities and mentoring by health care professionals. This year, 22 children ages 10 to 12 are participating in Medical Adventure Camp.

“Every year our physicians, nurses, staff, students and volunteers help inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals with fun learning activities,” says program coordinator Shannon Graham. “It is fun to watch their faces light up when they see the advanced equipment we use at the hospital or hear from a doctor about an interesting medical procedure.”

Since its debut in 2001, more than 325 children have participated in Medical Adventure Camp at Salinas Valley Health Medical Center. The experience provides young people with an up close and personal look at the many career and volunteer opportunities in health care. Student volunteers help guide the campers, while hospital staff and physicians present the classes and activities. Children’s Miracle Network at Salinas Valley Memorial, the hospital’s medical staff and the Service League Volunteers sponsor the day camp.

The camp provides positive role models, opportunities for bonding with kids of diverse backgrounds and exposes students to the benefits of compassionate patient care. This year's camp is being held from July 18th-29th from 9:30am-3pm. Media are invited to witness the camp experience as Medical Adventure campers tour the Sleep Medicine Center on Thursday July 21 at 12:30 pm.
