Salinas, CA - More than three decades after Brian Ambrosini first walked through the doors of Salinas Valley Health as a nurse aide, he still comes to work with the same passion for caring for patients, helping fellow nurses and, as one colleague put it, making people feel “seen, heard, and valued.” That commitment is now being recognized with a DAISY Award.
Ambrosini is a Staff Nurse II in Telemetry and has spent more than 30 caring for patients the way he would want to be treated himself. He started his career at Salinas Valley Health before he even had his nursing degree and once he graduated, continued his journey as a registered nurse. Today, Ambrosini is known not only for the care he provides to patients but also for the knowledge and experience he shares with nurses around him.
A colleague who nominated wrote: “Brian doesn't just provide excellent clinical care, he takes the time to learn who patients are as people. He listens to their stories, learns about their families, and builds authentic connections that make patients feel seen, heard, and valued.”
The nomination also praised Brian as a mentor who willingly shares his experience and helps other nurses develop their skills.
“I’m surprised and very grateful,” said Brian Ambrosini, RN, DAISY Award recipient. “I still come to work with the same smile on my face that I did 32 years ago. It’s a wonderful place to work. I think the lucky ones are the ones that find their niche in life, and I think I've kind of done that here.”
Every month, Salinas Valley Health recognizes an employee with either the DAISY Award for nursing excellence or the STAR Award for all staff. The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that celebrates nurses for the extraordinary, compassionate care they provide to patients and their families. The STAR Award for non-nursing employees is presented in recognition of the organizational values of Support, Teamwork, Accountability and Respect. Nominations are submitted by patients, families and colleagues and reviewed by a multi-disciplinary committee.
