Salinas Valley Health Receives Consecutive ‘A’ Grade for Patient Safety

SALINAS, CA, – Salinas Valley Health earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. Leapfrog assigns a letter grades ranging from “A” to “F” to general hospitals across the country using evidence-based measures of patient safety focused exclusively on errors, accidents, injuries and infections.

“Earning another ‘A’ from Leapfrog is meaningful because it reflects the consistent experience our patients have when they come through our doors,” said Allen Radner, MD, President/CEO of Salinas Valley Health. “This recognition reflects a culture where patient safety is embedded in every decision and every interaction across our organization so that we deliver on our mission to provide excellent care to everyone in our community.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 30 national performance measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and information from other supplemental data sources. Taken together, those performance measures produce a single letter grade representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade methodology has been peer reviewed and published in the Journal of Patient Safety. Grades are updated twice a year, in the fall and spring.
