May 10, 2022 – For the sixth consecutive report card, Salinas Valley Health earned another 'A' Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group. Leapfrog released the Spring 2022 letter grade results today based on a clinical, evidence-based review of patient safety metrics.

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization which rates how well hospitals prevent medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.

“Safety and quality care are cornerstones of who we are as an organization and how we operate as a team,” says Pete Delgado, President/CEO of Salinas Valley Health. “It’s meaningful that the latest announcement coincides with our week-long celebration of National Nurses and Hospital Weeks. We value each and every member of our staff and the consistency of receiving an 'A' patient safety rating reflects our commitment to each other, our patients and our community.”

The Leapfrog Group assigns letter grades ranging from A to F to general hospitals across the country based on more than thirty national performance measures reflecting errors, injuries, accidents and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

“As our health care system continues to feel the strain of the pandemic, I thank the workforce and leadership of Salinas Valley Health for sustained commitment to patient safety, day in and day out,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “An ‘A’ Safety Grade is an outstanding achievement, and one that is not possible without a 24/7 effort by the entire health care workforce to protect patients from harm. This community should be proud.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
