Salinas Valley Health Foundation is proud to announce it has received a grant in the amount of $100,000 from Hospice Giving Foundation. Hospice Giving Foundation has proudly awarded over $27 million in grants to local programs dedicated to strengthening and improving hospice and palliative care, and other end-of-life care services for children and adults.

This generous grant will be used to fund a Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner position for in-patient and out-patient care, and to provide additional education and training for Palliative Care staff. This training will continue to expand their professional competencies, allowing them to continue to bring state of the art and cutting-edge resources and best practices to our Palliative Care patients.

“The generous donation by the Hospice Giving Foundation will help support patients and their families during emotionally and physically challenging circumstances,” says Jeff Wardwell, Chief Philanthropy Officer of Salinas Valley Health. “We are grateful to Hospice Giving for recognizing the critical services our palliative care team provide and for their important financial support of that care.”

The palliative care services at Salinas Valley Health Medical Center are offered to any patient facing a serious illness or their family member. The team uses a variety of approaches and resources to help patients manage pain, reduce stress and access medical, social and financial resources during a difficult diagnosis. With palliative care, the diagnosis does not have to be terminal, but palliative care often involves providing patients and their families with end of life care.

The palliative care team at Salinas Valley Health Medical Center includes board certified physicians, pharmacists, nurses, social workers, spiritual care advisors, and practitioners of healing arts such as pet and massage therapies.
