Salinas Valley Health Nurse Makes Health Care Accessible for Out Of Town Patient

Daisy Carrillo, RN is a Nurse Navigator in the Cancer Resource Center and the July recipient of the DAISY Award at Salinas Valley Health. Salinas Valley Health participates in the national DAISY Award program, which celebrates compassionate and skillful nursing care. This is nurse Daisy’s second nomination and first award.

Daisy joined Salinas Valley Health as a new grad RN in the Comprehensive Cancer Center and is now working in the Cancer Resource Center where her compassionate care for patients undergoing medical treatment is notable to all around her. A fellow nurse in the Cancer Resource Center submitted her Daisy Award nomination.

Daisy’s co-worker wrote in her nomination that Daisy provides extraordinary care for all patients and in various situations goes above and beyond in taking the care to the next level. One example the colleague recalled involved a patient who had a hard time keeping appointments due to lack of transportation. She provided Uber cards and assisted him in finding housing closer to his appointments. She even helped him with the application process and enlisted staff to help with basic apartment necessities.

Every month, Salinas Valley Health recognizes an outstanding employee with a DAISY Award (for nurses) or a STAR Award (for all staff). Nominations can be submitted by patients, visitors and staff.
