BETA Healthcare Group Names Salinas Valley Health President/CEO to Board of Directors

Salinas, CA, September 13, 2018- BETA Healthcare Group has selected Salinas Valley Health President/CEO Pete Delgado to serve on its Board of Directors. Delgado will also serve on the Risk Management, Workers’ Compensation and Underwriting Committees. BETA Healthcare Group is the largest professional liability insurer of medical centers on the West Coast and provides coverage to more than 250 hospitals and healthcare facilities.

Delgado has been President/CEO at Salinas Valley Health since 2013. During his tenure, Delgado has focused on a number of key priorities including expanding access to specialty care service to all members of the community, regardless of ability to pay. Numerous national and independent organizations such as Healthgrades, Leapfrog, and the Joint Commission have all recognized the medical center for exceptional quality and safety.

Most recently, under Delgado’s leadership, the Healthcare System has invested in reversing the diabetes epidemic in Monterey County. Salinas Valley Health Clinics Diabetes & Endocrine Center opened in September of 2017, offering patients integrated care, diagnostic tests, treatment, and English/Spanish education classes as well as group support sessions. Earlier this year, the state-of the art facility located in Salinas expanded by opening The Madison Clinic for Pediatric Diabetes, a partnership of UCSF and Salinas Valley Health. Delgado also oversaw the opening of Salinas Valley Health Taylor Farms Family Health & Wellness Center in Gonzales to improve access to primary medical care to underserved communities in that region.

Mr. Delgado was a founding member of the National Forum for Latino Healthcare Executives (NFLHE) – a national organization increasing the representation of Latinos at the executive level of medical centers across the country. He has held board positions on the Hospital Association of Southern California, California Health Care Safety Net Institute, California Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems, and currently California’s District Hospital Leadership Forum and California Association of Hospitals and Health Systems (CAHHS). The Hispanic Business magazine recognized Delgado as one of the Top 100 Influential People of 2009.

As a seasoned healthcare executive, Delgado has served in various leadership positions throughout his career, including Chief Executive Officer for the Los Angeles County + University of Southern California (LAC+USC) Healthcare Network; Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Christus Santa Rosa, a five Hospital Catholic Healthcare system; Chief Executive Officer for Valley Regional Medical Center (Columbia); Chief Executive Officer for Kaiser Health Plan Hospitals in Northern California, managing 160,000 Kaiser Permanente members thru a network of two Kaiser Permanente Hospitals and 250 physicians.

Delgado received his Master of Science in Hospital Administration from Texas Women’s University, Houston, Texas, and his Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration from University of Houston / CLC. Houston, Texas. He has also participated in two senior executive programs at Stanford University and Harvard University respectively.

Delgado serves on the Board of Directors for Rancho Cielo and is actively involved in the Central Coast community.
