SALINAS, CA, February 23, 2018- Salinas Valley Health has recognized Aida Solorio-Holman with the STAR Award for the compassionate care and service she provides patients. Solorio-Holman is a Transitional Care Social Worker for Disease Specific Care who exemplifies the Salinas Valley Health STAR values- Support, Teamwork, Accountability and Respect. She received the STAR Award in a special ceremony at the medical center and the publicly elected board of Directors recognized her during the board’s February meeting.

“This is such a nice surprise,” says Aida Solorio-Holman. “I enjoy helping people and I’m blessed to be in a position to be able to help. I’m also grateful for my colleagues. We are a team and our focus is always our patients and their families.”

Solorio-Holman joined Salinas Valley Health in October of 2015 as a Transitional Care Clinical Social Worker for the Case Management Department. A few months ago, she transferred to Disease Specific Care. Aside from providing exceptional care and service to patients, she is involved in the community and volunteers at her son’s school in Seaside and at her church in Castroville.

A colleague nominated Solorio-Holman for the STAR Award for providing exceptional service to patients and their families and for always going the extra mile for them. The employee who nominated her shared that a patient’s wife was very concerned about the cost of her husband’s insulin and whether or not his insurance would cover it. Solorio-Holman immediately asked all the right questions and worked with the patient’s wife to get her the information she needed. The colleague added, “Aida called me back at 5pm to give me an update. Aida never hesitates to help and always puts patients first.”

“Aida Solorio-Holman is one of our outstanding social workers,” says Clement Miller, RN, Chief Administrative Officer of Clinical Development. “Not only does she assist patients and their families, she does it with a smile, always treating them like family. We are grateful Aida is part of our dedicated team.”

Several employees received STAR nominations in February including Anajael Delgado, Katherine Knight, Pia Mina, Cassondra Rojas, Cynthia Vargas and David Walker. Every month, Salinas Valley Health recognizes an outstanding employee with a STAR Award (for all staff) or a DAISY Award (for nurses). Nomination forms and drop boxes are located throughout the medical center.
