Salinas, CA, March 28, 2018- The California Special District Association (CSDA) honored Assemblymember Anna Caballero with the 2017 Legislator of the Year Award. The award was presented to Assemblymember Caballero during a ceremony this morning in the Medical Museum at Salinas Valley Health Medical Center. Caballero is being recognized for her unwavering support of special districts responsible for providing water, fire protection, health care, and other essential services to communities throughout the state of California.

“Assemblymember Anna Caballero has a deep understanding of the value of special districts and the essential public services they provide,” says Pete Delgado, President/CEO of Salinas Valley Health. “We congratulate Assemblymember Caballero on receiving this award.”

There are over two-thousand independent special districts representing communities throughout the state of California. Salinas Valley Health is one of these districts and is the 7th largest in the state. These Districts are local governments led by board of directors that are elected or appointed to a fixed term to serve diverse communities and regions. Salinas Valley Health has a five-member publicly elected Board of Directors representing five districts zones in Salinas.

“Special districts play an important role in closing critical service gaps to communities,” says Assemblymember Anna Caballero. “They allow local leaders who are highly-informed about a particular service and about the specific needs of an area to make decisions that best serve the community. I am proud to serve in this capacity and grateful for this honor.”

“Assemblymember Caballero was the clear choice for CSDA’s 2017 Legislator of the Year,” says Kyle Packman, Advocacy and Public Affairs Director, California Special District Association. “As a member of the Assembly Local Government Committee, she has served as a voice for special districts and the communities they serve. Assemblymember Caballero also makes it a priority to foster relationships with special district leaders, so they can work together to find solutions that meet local needs and empower communities.”
