New Graduate Nurse Residency Program

Our Nurse Residency Program achieved accreditation with distinction from the ANCC Practice Transition Accreditation Program ® (PTAP) in December 2022. This prestigious recognition reflects our commitment to upholding evidence-based standards in supporting newly licensed registered nurses as they transition into professional practice. At the Salinas Valley Health Medical Center, we take pride in fostering excellence in nursing practice. The residency program is 6 months long, offered in the Spring and Fall, and provides opportunities in various nursing specialties.

Residents complete the 6 month program with a cohort of peers.

The comprehensive residency program encompasses:

Six weeks of in-classroom intensive clinical development each week:

  • Patient-Centered Care
  • Teamwork and Collaboration
  • Clinical Practice
  • Quality Improvement and Safety
  • Informatics and Technology
  • Management of Patient Care Delivery

4, 5, & 6 month Professional Development Seminars:

  • Professional Development
  • Values and Ethics
  • Wellness
  • Completion of an evidence-based project

Unit Level Orientation

  • Orientation time on the specialty unit of hire with dedicated preceptors
  • Precepted time on the unit continues past the first 6 weeks with the duration depending on the specialty unit of hire

The education team individualizes the curriculum to ensure the cohort and the individual resident is supported.

Throughout the 6 month program the education team will partner with your Nursing Leaders and preceptor to support you in your successful transition into your new role.
