Enrique Ramirez, BSN, RN, Receives DAISY Award for Dedication to Patient Care

A nurse’s dedication to patient care even when off the clock earned him the DAISY Award for nursing excellence. Enrique Ramirez, BSN, RN, a Staff Nurse II in Med Surg was honored with the DAISY Award Wednesday morning at Salinas Valley Health Medical Center.

A nomination submitted by a colleague reads that the patient whose name is Bart, raved about nurse Enrique. “Bart shared that Enrique was kind, compassionate and attentive”. The colleague went on to share that in one occasion, “Enrique even clocked out and went back to visit with him instead of going home to his family. He was extremely touched. Bart had been very nervous about his procedure and subsequent recovery. His visit with Enrique made a significant positive impact on his mental and emotional state.”

“We knew how special of a nurse Enrique was going to be upon meeting him for the first time,” said Agnes Lalata, MSN, CMSRN, CNML, Director, Med Surg. “He is an exceptional nurse for our patients and our Med Surg team.”

Enrique joined Salinas Valley Health in October of 2024. This is his second nomination and first DAISY Award. The nominations that led to the DAISY Award are great highlights on the impact Enrique has made in his nearly 1.5-year tenure with Med Surg.

Each month, Salinas Valley Health recognizes an outstanding nurse with a DAISY Award (for nurses) and a STAR Award (for all staff). The DAISY Award is an international program that honors nurses for their extraordinary compassion, outstanding clinical skills, and personalized care, established by the DAISY Foundation. The STAR Award is a recognition program created by Salinas Valley Health, incorporating the organization’s core vales of Support, Teamwork, Accountability and Respect, to highlight staff serving patients, the community and each other.
