Salinas Valley Health to Host Sixth Free Community Flu Vaccine Clinic

Salinas Valley Health to Host Sixth Free Community Flu Vaccine Clinic

January 16, 2026 - In response to high influenza activity this season, and the emergence of the so called “super flu” strain, Salinas Valley Health will host a sixth free community flu vaccine clinic to help protect residents from serious illness.

To date this flu season, Salinas Valley Health has administered more than 1,000 flu vaccines through its Mobile Clinic and community-based flu clinics. The additional clinic is being offered as influenza activity remains elevated, including circulation of the particularly aggressive flu strain, linked to Influenza A virus type H3N2, otherwise known as the subclade K. It’s being described as the “super flu” because of how quickly the virus is spreading and the intensity of symptoms people experience.

Since November, 11 patients have been admitted to Salinas Valley Health Medical Center for influenza-related illness, underscoring the importance of prevention.

“Vaccination remains the best protection against influenza,” says Orlando Rodriguez, MD, Medical Director of Salinas Valley Health Mobile Clinic. “Getting vaccinated helps reduce the risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and the spread of flu in our community.”

Clinic Details:

  • What: Free Flu Vaccine Clinic
  • When: Sunday, January 25
  • Time: 1:00pm - 4:00pm
  • Where: Northridge Mall, 796 Northridge Drive, near the food court next to Auntie Anne’s

The clinic is open to the community while supplies last. No appointment is required.

For the safety of patients and staff, individuals who are sick or experiencing COVID-19 related symptoms are asked not to attend.

Salinas Valley Health encourages everyone eligible to get vaccinated as early as possible to help reduce the impact of flu this season and keep emergency and hospital services available for those who need them most.
