November 13, 2025, Salinas CA – Salinas Valley Health earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. Leapfrog assigns a letter grades ranging from “A” to “F” to general hospitals across the country using evidence-based measures of patient safety focused exclusively on errors, accidents, injuries and infections.
“Recognition such as a Leapfrog A grade reflects what we strive for every day—safe, compassionate, and high-quality care,” said Allen Radner, MD, President/CEO of Salinas Valley Health. “The national distinction is the result of an extraordinary team effort and a shared commitment to putting quality processes in place to achieve the highest level of care for everyone in our community.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 30 national performance measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and information from other supplemental data sources. Taken together, those performance measures produce a single letter grade representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade methodology has been peer reviewed and published in the Journal of Patient Safety.
“Earning an ‘A’ Grade means Salinas Valley Health made a true commitment to put patient safety first,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers that all had a role to play in this achievement.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries. The program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice a year, in the fall and spring.
