Alex Logono, MD

About the provider

As a family medicine physician, Alex Logono, MD, provides comprehensive medical care to people of every age and brings with him a special focus and personal story about the importance of healthcare. Dr. Logono joined Salinas Valley Health in 2023 as a hospitalist after graduating from the Natividad Family Medicine Residency, a UCSF affiliate program. He was born in South Sudan and was displaced by civil war at the age of nine. During his journey across Africa, he was enrolled as a child soldier and traveled with 26,000 other refugees, who became known as the "Lost Boys of Sudan." Dr. Logono spent time in the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya, where he endured immense hardship, including the loss of close friends to preventable diseases. The experience of witnessing the tragic deaths of many refugees in the camp due to insufficient medical care solidified his desire to pursue medicine in order to go back and help his community.

In 2000, the U.S. government initiated a resettlement program for 3,600 “Lost Boys,” and Dr. Logono was fortunate to be relocated to Utica, New York. He began the first steps in achieving his goal of becoming a physician by attending Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica. Dr. Logono later transferred to the State University of New York at Albany, earning a Bachelor of Science degree and paying his way through school by working as a nursing assistant. He completed his medical education at the American University of Antigua College of Medicine.

Now serving as a full-time physician at Salinas Valley Health, Dr. Logono is determined to help his native Sudanese village of Buagyi, where many people have died due to a lack of healthcare—including women giving birth at home and children. In response to this need, Dr. Logono is working to build a free medical center there to give back to his community.

Dr. Logono's inspiring journey—from surviving war and hardship to becoming a physician—is a testament to his resilience and commitment to improving healthcare for others.
