This four-class series provides education on the skills to live healthfully with diabetes.

Class number 3 covers a variety of topics including:

  • A wrap-up on nutrition and review of label reading
  • Medications for diabetes and how they work
  • Low blood sugar: who is at risk, how to recognize the signs and symptoms and how to treat it
  • Managing diabetes when sick
  • Information on vaccines that are recommended for people with diabetes
  • How to travel safely when living with diabetes
  • Driving safely and informing the DMV of a diabetes diagnosis
  • Having a diabetes emergency plan

Participants must be diagnosed with diabetes to attend and will need a physician's referral.

Many insurance plans, including Medi-Cal and Medicare, cover diabetes education classes. A cash pay price is available. Participants may bring one guest free of charge.
