Matthew J. Griffin, M.D. is an orthopaedic surgeon with additional subspecialty training in surgery of the foot and ankle. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (FAAOS), Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) and a Member of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS). He is also a member of the California Orthopaedic Association. He completed a prestigious fellowship in Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgery with internationally recognized field leader and innovator Michael J. Coughlin, M.D. at the Coughlin Clinic in Boise, Idaho. His Orthopaedic Surgery residency was completed at the University of Southern California/LAC+USC where he received an extensive orthopaedic trauma experience in one of the busiest Level 1 Trauma Centers in the country. This extensive 5-year training covered all aspects of orthopaedic surgery including pediatrics, trauma, spine, hand, foot and ankle, infection, tumor, total joint replacement and sports medicine. Originally from Orange County, Dr. Griffin attended the University of California, Irvine for undergraduate studies graduating in the top of his class (summa cum laude). He stayed at the University of California, Irvine for medical school graduating in the top of his class (alpha omega alpha).
Dr. Griffin's foot and ankle practice focuses on all aspects of foot and ankle care including total ankle replacement, arthroscopy, sports related injuries, hallux valgus (bunions), hallux rigidus, rheumatoid arthritis foot pathology, lateral ligament reconstructions, plantar fasciitis/tarsal tunnel syndrome, hammertoes/mallet toes, plantar plate deficiency, trauma and complex hindfoot deformity reconstruction. He also responds to general orthopedics emergency room calls at Salinas Valley Health Medical Center.
Dr. Griffin is committed to continuing to provide the highest quality care for his patients. After a comprehensive evaluation, he provides individualized treatment, using leading-edge techniques when needed. It’s important to note that not all foot and ankle conditions need surgery. A careful risk and benefit approach is used which is unique to each patient and their associated condition. In his free time, Dr. Griffin enjoys cycling, hiking, surfing, classic cars and spending time with his young family.
