SVH COPE Health Scholar Program
The COPE Health Scholar Program at Salinas Valley Health is the only one of its kind in the Central Coast Region of California and is one of many programs Salinas Valley Health offers to provide our diverse population with opportunities to explore a career in healthcare.
Accepted applicants gain firsthand experience in a variety of health care settings, impact patients’ lives, become an integral part of the care delivery team and earn clinical hours that can be applied toward professional school.
Health Scholars undergo a training and assessment period before being assigned to an appropriate hospital unit where they gain valuable administrative and clinical experience.

This program is offered year-round with enrollment occurring every quarter. Most individuals graduate from the program in 15 months after completing 30 hours of training and 250 hours of field experience with a commitment of 4 to 8 hours per week. For those looking to complete the program faster, we offer 9-month and 3-month options where you will receive priority shift selection in order to finish at an accelerated pace. Program participants have the option to continue their participation beyond their chosen duration, in order to acquire additional clinical hours and continue their professional development through leadership opportunities.
