Caring Community Update

March 2021

Fundraising

The Salinas Valley Health Foundation recently received a generous donation of 10 “Pocket Talker” units from Salinas Valley Health hospitalist Dr. Bruce Kaufman. Dr. Kaufman noticed that some of his patients were having difficulty hearing their care team, and he sought to solve this issue by providing these specialty hearing devices. These personal systems amplify sound closest to the listener while reducing background noise, and they can be used with or without hearing aids, making a big impact on the patient’s experience and their ability to participate in their care.

MC Gives

We are pleased to announce that our final total for the MC Gives fundraising campaign is in, and we have raised $63,388 for our Greatest Needs Fund. Monterey County Gives is a special project of Monterey County Weekly in partnership with the Community Foundation for Monterey County, and this year raised over $7,890,000 from over 7,550 donors for a variety of local non-profit organizations. We are grateful to have been included in this community program and look forward to next season’s campaign. Thank you to everyone who contributed!

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals

cmn donationWe have has officially kicked off our 2021 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals campaign season with the help of corporate partners and some new local partners. Outdoor Supply Hardware has recently joined in the efforts to change kids’ health with the start of their “Cents of Purpose” campaign which will run in their Capitola location from March 1st through April 4th. Guests will be asked to round up or donate at the register to benefit our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Program.

In 2020, our corporate partners raised over $323,385 to support the Children’s Miracle Network Program. We are thankful to the generous associates, employees, and guests that continued to visit our patrons and donate at the registers to support our program. With these donations, the Foundation is able to support crucial health programs that benefit local children. If you’d like to join our family of Corporate Partners, please contact Andrea Cisneros, CMN Hospitals Program Coordinator, at acisneros@svmh.com. We would love to work with you to “Change Kids’ Health, Change the Future!”

Announcements

In February, Salinas Valley Health marked one year since we activated our Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) to begin planning in anticipation of COVID-19 reaching Monterey County, which of course it did only one month later. In the 12 months since activating HICS, our county has seen over 42,600 cases and 337 deaths, and the impact on the healthcare system has been substantial.

Recently, the Salinas Valley Health Board of Directors unanimously passed a resolution expressing deep appreciation to all Salinas Valley Health providers and staff for the dedication and extraordinary effort they have shown during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Copies of that formal, framed resolution hang throughout the hospital. In a recent note to staff, President and CEO Pete Delgado said “It’s a team effort and our respect and appreciation for one another has deepened during this time. We’re finally seeing that light at the end of the tunnel but we must never forget what we’ve been through together. I want our team to take note of the resolution on display around the hospital to remind them of their heroism and our gratitude for their selfless sacrifice during this unprecedented chapter in history.”
